Water Efficiency

Water is a precious natural resource and the efficient use of it is a major focus of Perradenya. Forty percent of residential water consumption is used in flushing toilets and in the garden but it is unnecessary for this water to be town drinking water. As Perradenya develops, we will provide recycled water instead of town water for use in the garden and for toilet flushing.

Instead of discharging Perradenya's wastewater to the environment, we will collect it and purify/filter it in what will become a showcase water recycling facility that produces the highest quality recycled water. The treatment plant will be built to a standard that gains the approval of the Environment Protection Authority and the Department of Health.

By using recycled water, we can extend the life of our existing town water supply system and defer the construction of new dams. Recycling wastewater will also reduce the amount of sewage effluent discharged to local waterways.

The big cost saving will be to our environment here on the North Coast. Residents at Perradenya will reap the benefit of knowing they have ensured a healthier environment for their future.

Householders at Perradenya will be offered incentives and assistance to conserve water and reduce wastage. Rous Water will advise householders on the most appropriate water efficient appliances and fittings such as: water efficient shower roses, dual-flush toilets, and front-loading washing machines. In addition, we encourage gardens that incorporate attention to design and plant selection to minimise water usage.

Water Supply Options

People choosing to live at Perradenya will have the opportunity to select from a number of water supply options.

Right now residents can choose between town water for indoor use with recycled water for outside use, or town water for indoor use with rainwater tanks for outdoor use. Until sufficient wastewater is available on the estate for recycling, the recycled water system will be supplied with town water.

The next big step in the water supply evolution at Perradenya will be the supply of recycled water for all uses. Planning for this is underway and homeowners at Perradenya can indicate their support for this option by nominating this choice at the time their property is purchased. Until recycled water for all purposes is available, householders will receive town water for indoor use and recycled water for toilet flushing and garden watering.
